“A hapenning is an assemblage of events performed or perceived in more than one time or place…Unlike a stage play, may occur at a supermarket, driving along a highway, under a pile of rags and in a friends kitchen, either at once or sequentially…It is art but seems closer to life”
Allan Kaprow
(learnt at the Endless Present exhibition at the NGV. A small collection of conceptual art with works by Ed Ruscha, Sol LeWitt et al)
Part of the visit to Melbourne was to catch up with an old friend, Pete Keen, the organiser of the upcoming Sugar Mountain festival. Sugar Mountain is a new cultural art and music festival/happening south of the border. You should all go! Plans are already in the pipeline for the 2012 festival.

The book ArtPark: 1974-1984 reflects on the seminal years of a State Government arts initiative run in North NY State. The program brought together a diverse group of artists each summer to create and work together on temporary site specific public art interventions. The resulting art often considered the historical past of the land where the program was held (think: an old quarry, railroads and a native american burial ground)
This newish book presents a historical recollection of the art, the artists, location and public interaction during the years of 1974-84.

This book is great. A local surfing legend from Bells Beach packs up and travels the world surfing. These are his frequent letters home, postcards sent, photographs taken and ephemera collected. The book is really well produced and designed. Inspirational stuff.
Go track a copy down.
